Lineage

We often assume that spiritual lineage is in the past, a mere tradition. But lineage can take us deeper into Presence. The present moment is a very ancient lineage, rooted in the first breath of creation. Our breath can touch that Breath.

The present moment contains all the past. The awakened ones whose awareness preceded us have not gone anywhere. Their consciousness is all-pervading. They are present, supporting our own meditation, and we feel their presence as grace.

Now is the blossom, lineage is the root. The sap of eternity permeates both root and blossom. This is why we bow. When the bow is a fully embodied gesture of unconditional gratitude, our forehead touches the ground. Then we are not touching the present moment only, we are touching the groundless depth of eternity, the very feet of God.
