The Shape of the World

Image
If you want to see the shape of the world, subtract the "I." Every mountain, every plum blossom, every mouth about to speak and that moon floating in the sky: all zeros! Hills and valleys rolling to the round horizon: empty circles, fluctuations of the vacuum in the O of an atom, waves of laughter in the belly of emptiness. God has written a book about the Void. People quote it all the time, saying nothing. So be silent, find any ring and leap into it's center! You'll feel as free as light from a star that no longer exists. Make the sound of "Oh" and never point your finger at anybody. If you put a one in front of these ciphers your marvelous sigh will cease and you'll have to go to work adding it all up.

Why Do We Have Bodies?

Image
"Those who gained enlightenment by seeing blossoms or hearing sounds, achieved it through the body." (Dogen, Zen Founder) "Eternity was in our lips and eyes!" (Shakespeare) Why do I have a body? Did I fall into this body by chance? Is my body a punishment? An exile? Is it, as Plato said, the prison of my soul? Mind is the prison, not body. I am imprisoned by my thoughts. A gray wall of thought separates me from the world, and from other people. If it were not for this body, I would be lost in a ghost-land whose geography fades to the distant past and future. Drifting through mental mist, I never seem to realize the truth about time: it only exists as thought. And thought cannot be present. Thought is always when or then, but never now. This body is the doorway to now, the path that leads from abstract shadow to radiant sensation, the bridge to a place where people live. Sensations in the body are precious spiritual jewels, awakening what is . The simple sensation o...

Don't Look!

Greater than a thousand verses of scripture is one word from the breath of a living master. Greater yet is a silent glance from the master's eye. But greatest of all is a glimpse of the glory that lies within You , the jewel-like essence of creation. This infinite blue sky of Awareness cannot be conceived, for it is always already there, prior to forming any concept about it. Don' t look for it. Rest where looking arises.

The Future Is 101% of Now

I have often wondered what Gandhi really meant when he said, "Be the difference you want to make in the world." I think it is also what Laotzu meant when he said, "The way to Do is to Be." If you want to change the world, don't try to change the world. Changing the world requires a concept of the future, which only divides us from Presence. As long as we are thinking of the future, we disconnect from the root of power. There is a better way. We change the world through unconditional surrender to what is . Accepting things 101% as they are integrates life into a unity . From unity comes power . Power creates . Hence, through unconditional surrender to what is, we transform the world spontaneously, by simply doing what needs doing, in the ever-evolving unity of Now. Don't try to change the world. Just Be. That does it.
