Why Did You Come?
You did not come here
to worship a pair of sandals
or a white robe.
You did not come here to be
on the left or the right,
a believer or a non-believer,
the color white or the color brown.
Did you come to
get angry
at reflections in a mirror?
To insist on disasters
that never happen?
No friend, you
came to be
astonished by a dust mote,
torn in two by sorrow
and uncertainty,
then made whole again
by the tang of a berry
on an even wilder tongue.
Why waste another moment
arguing For or Against
when you could slide down
a beam of breath,
soft as moonlight,
into the radiance you are?
